Safety and insurance

Boat Ownership
Safety, management and insurance of a boat is the the sole responsibility of the owner/person in charge of the boat. The boat owner also warrants that boat and crew are worthy, fit and qualified to face the conditions that may arise at sea, for leisure sailing or racing.

Personal Safety
Club regulations and sailing instructions do not reduce the absolute responsibility of the owner/person in charge of the crew, the boat and her management. The club shall not be responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury however that is caused to the owner/person in charge or crew, as a result of taking part in any sailing activity. It is a club rule that all sailors wear suitable personal buoyancy at all times when at sea. Adequate buoyancy is as described in the EU regulation, “CE 50 Newton personal buoyancy aid”.

When Sailing
Please be vigilant at all times and perform constant scanning at sea. Be prepared to assist others in difficulty when this does not endanger yourself or your crew. You must take any necessary action to avoid close contact and collisions with other crafts. Do not overestimate your abilities and do not seek to reach your limits in heavy weather. Failure to comply may result in a sailor's exclusion from the club. Sailors are warned to keep out of the swimming area at all times. The by-laws for Swimming Safety in navigation, the prevention of danger or annoyance to persons, bathers or users of foreshore, are available in the Cyprus department of merchant shipping www.shipping.gov.cy.

RIB (Rubber Inflatable Boat)
Members and visitors, when sailing, must comply with directions given from club RIB. Provided the RIB's driver is not in danger, his priority is to assist and return to shore sailors in distress, whether injured, sick, exhausted or cold. The sailboat could be retrieved and returned to the club, weather permitting. Other sailboats must keep clear of a RIB in close attendance to a sailor in difficulty, unless told differently.

Launching and Recovery
Member, and especially guest, sailors are advised to study the "Sail In & Out" illustration which indicates the safe areas, to sail into and out of the club's slip-way. Trolleys must be kept on the rocky surfaces along the sides of the slip-way and must never be left abandoned on the concrete ramp. Sailors are expected to always help each other in and out the water.
