Musings Whilst OOD’ing
I was starting to think the day would never come and I was doomed to be forever welding, digging etc. Still it did come and racing was going to start…..
Brushing up my OOD duties spurred on by Stella’s phone call “I shall be your assistant…” I was duty bound to make a good attempt at getting it right, Flags, courses, briefing. Eager faces young and old, a good fleet, my prayers were answered and only 70mins late we were off.
The more relaxed starting ways of old were a thing off the past. Now the Optimist “tigers” were fighting for their places on the line. The pressure was on the older faces to show that they were not to be left in the shadow of these small optimist sails with experienced racing helms and huge handicaps!!!
The race started with a small disaster for Antonis and Yiannis in one of the F18s but with some quick hands and improvisation they were across the line and back in the race.
Now dear reader this is where doing the scoring has one of its most magic moments….Not as our beloved Acting Commodore would have you believe that I manipulate the scoring… I get to see the handicaps unravel first…. I have to warn all the older sailors that times have changed – FOREVER!! The pressure is on…
Worried of Oroklini….
